A coalition of black professionals are trying to raise $50 million to build a waterfront memorial in honor of black inovator Benjamin Banneker.
The memorial, planned for the L'Enfant Plaza corridor in D.C., would also include a 20-foot bronze statute of Banneker.
The Washington Interdependence Council established the Benjamin Banneker Institute of Math & Science in 2004 to promote the advancement of math, science and engineering as academic and professional pursuits for people of color.
